Harney Peak
Harney Peak is the highest peak in South Dakota, located in the Black Hills in the southwestern portion of the state. The mountain provides a spectacular view of the surrounding Black Hills. An abandoned fire lookout tower is situated on the summit, but is open to hikers.
The peak can be climbed any time of the year but the best is April through October. All hikers going to the peak must use the registration system when they enter. There are registration stations located at most trail heads.
