The Summit Climb of the Gallatin Tower is Montana Alpine Guides' most popular half-day climb and
is an outstanding climb for the first-time climber. We have guided climbers as young as 5 and as old
as 70 on this climb, and we would enjoy climbing with you too. We have an impeccable safety
record, with no accidents in over 1,000 trips.
Enjoy climbing and want to take it to the next level? In the Advanced Climbing Class, skilled guides
teach anchoring, leading (traditional and sport), gear placement, rope handling, and advanced
climbing technique. Participants must have previously taken a class equivalent to the Beginning
Climbing Class. The cost is $100/climber.
Ice Climbing. Hyalite Canyon is the largest grouping of natural water ice in Montana and until the
snow gets deep is easily accessible by car from Bozeman. The canyon and its drainages support
over 70 ice climbs from short topropable climbs to climbs that have never been repeated. Climbers
from all over the world come to Bozeman to test their water ice climbing skills. Hyalite Canyon
because of its easy access and many climbing options is an exceptional place to learn to ice
climbing. Many moderate routes also allow access to a multitude of half day and day long ice
climbs. The beauty and excitement of climbing a frozen waterfall for the first time is something a
climber will never forget and is the capstone experience for even the most seasoned rock climber.
If you are in the Bozeman area during late October (most years) come climb the frozen waterfalls
in Hyalite Canyon. Montana Alpine Guides is the only guide service permitted to guide ice climbing
in this world renowned ice climbing destination. We can customize a day of ice climbing instruction
or guide clients on multi-pitch ice climbing routs.

Guide's Choice: The Gallatin Tower Summit Climb - Beginner
The Summit Climb is Montana Alpine Guides' most popular half-day climb and is an outstanding
climb for the first-time climber. We have guided climbers as young as 5 and as old as 70 on this
climb, and we would enjoy climbing with you too. We have an impeccable safety record, with no
accidents in over 1,000 trips. The cost of the outing is $75/climber.
Beginning Climbing Class - Beginner
This climbing class is most useful for those who have already tried climbing and want to learn the
climbing craft and eventually will climb on their own. The beginning of the class is spent mastering
knot tying, belaying, rappelling, climbing techniques, and safety. The rest of the class is spent
practicing the techniques on some challenging climbs. The cost is $75/climber.
Ascent of Skyline Buttress - Beginner to Intermediate
The Guided Ascent of Skyline Buttress is a beginner to intermediate climb of the longest route in the
Gallatin Canyon. This is a three quarter day private ascent. The climbing is uncomplicated, but the
exposure level is high, due to the position of the buttress above the valley. This climb is for the
adventuresome beginner or intermediate climber. The cost is $125/climber and the group size is
limited to three.
Ascent of The Waltz - Intermediate
The Waltz is one of the Gallatin Canyon's oldest climbs. It is an intermediate half day climb which
wanders its way up the first two tiers of this beautiful tower and ends with a long rappel back to the
ground. Follow a leader, learn the basics of taking out protection, and have an enjoyable half day.
The cost is $85/climber and is limited to a maximum of three climbers.
Advanced Climbing Class - Intermediate to Advanced
Enjoy climbing and want to take it to the next level? In the Advanced Climbing Class, skilled guides
teach anchoring, leading (traditional and sport), gear placement, rope handling, and advanced
climbing technique. Participants must have previously taken a class equivalent to the Beginning
Climbing Class. The cost is $100/climber.
Private Ascents - Client's Choice
Private ascents of The Standard Route on the Gallatin Tower, Spare Rib, The Watchtower,
Revenue and Humbug Spires, and others can be tailored to your ability and group size. Learn to
follow a traditional route, place gear, and build anchors by following a professional guide up these
climbs. These trips are for intermediate to advanced climbers who are already comfortable with
rock climbing. Participants must have previously taken a class equivalent to the Beginning Climbing
Class. The price is $150/climber. Please call for further information.
