At 14,197 feet, Mount Princeton is the 20th highest peak in Colorado. it is the southern most and most visible of the Collegiate Peaks. The mountain is a straightforward peak with nice views of Buena Vista and Arkansas Valley. Most people climb the mountain via the 4x4 road that ascends the mountain to treeline at approximately 11,000 feet, then hike to the summit.
Best time to climb is June through September and it is advisable to climb early to avoid the threatening afternoon thunderstorms.
How to Get There
Drive south of Buena Vista for eight miles to Colorado 162, and go west. At 4 miles, take County Road 321 north for about 1 mile to County Road 322. Turn west and follow CR 322 for 1 mile. Cars will want to park at this location.
