Mount Evans
Mount Evans is a dominant mountain in the Front Range and the closest Colorado fourteener to Denver. Like Pikes Peak, there is also a road to the top of the mountain. And the road has made the mountain very accessible to tourists and mountaineers. The road is closed in winter, but there are routes up that are class 1 to 4.
Best months for climbing are June through September and the peak season is July and August. Mount Evans is a popular destination, so expect a summit full of tourist. If possible climb during the week.
How to Get There
Take I-70 from Denver. A sign announces Mt. Evans at the Idaho Springs exit. After a 13 mile drive south on Colorado State highway 103 is Echo Lake picnic grounds and the trailhead for the Chicago Lakes trail.
