At 4347 meters (14261 feet), Longs Peak is the 15th highest mountain in Colorado and also the highest peak in Rocky Mountain National Park. It is the northernmost Fourteener, towering the neighboring mountains in the Front Range of northern Colorado.
Longs Peak was believed to be first climbed by natives, before it was climbed by John Wesley Powell, William Byers, and other climbers in 1868.
Longs Peak is the most popular and most frequently climbed Colorado Fourteener. One distinct feature of Longs Peak is its Diamond Face, a part of the East Face (1675 feet). The Diamond Face is 1000 feet which poses a great challenge for climbers.
There are different routes up Longs Peak, ranging from class 3 to class 5.8.
Best Time to CLimb
It is said earlier that Longs Peak is a popular mountain, so it is usually crowded especially during the peak season (July until August). People usually climb Longs Peak during summer.

I will be visiting Estes Park in mid September. I would like to view the Longs Peak from the base......not climb.I am older but still quite mobile. Is the base usually accessible at that time of year? If yes, how far is the access point from the Stanley Hotel? I will have a car. What is the driving time from the hotel? Thanks

Long''s Peak can be seen from various spots within Estes Park, so no need to go to the Long''s Peak ranger station, from which the view is obstructed (although there is a little museum there that may be of some interest); alternatively, you can drive into the RMNP and see Long''s from within. Finally, I believe it is also viewable from the Peak to Peak highway, which is another option.
