Alaska Alpine Adventures
Alaska's mountain ranges can be characterized as remote, glaciated, and big! Access into many of these areas requires a flight in a small airplane equipped with skis, floats or wheels. The pilots who operate in these areas are some of the most skilled in the world and they give access to those people looking for real adventure in some of the most wild mountain environments on earth!
About Alaska Alpine Adventures First-class hiking, backpacking, climbing, mountaineering, skiing, rafting and kayaking expeditions in Alaska's stunning National Parks, Refuges and Wilderness Regions. Denali, Gates of the Arctic, Katmai, Lake Clark, Wrangell-St. Elias, Kenai Fjords, Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and beyond.
Alaska Alpine Adventures was founded in 1998 by its current owners Derek Nelson and Dan Oberlatz. Started as a boutique mountain guide company in Lake Clark National Park, Alaska Alpine Adventures has expanded and our trips now cover the spectrum of adventure travel, from backpacking traverses of the Alaska and Aleutian Ranges to comfortable lodge tours along the state’s wonderful road system. As Alaska’s premier pure-adventure tour operator and your guide to the state’s spectacular National Parks and Wildlife Refuges, we continue to redefine active vacationing in the “Real” Alaska. In addition to Lake Clark and Katmai National Parks, our menu of guided trips also includes adventures to Denali, Kenai Fjords, Wrangell-St. Elias, Gates of the Arctic, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and many more spectacular and rarely-seen areas. We’d love for your next adventure to be with us!
Our proximity to the remote regions of Alaska gives us the opportunity to see more of it than most, and our dedication to this resource is reflected in each of our unique journeys. Our small group size allows us to give superior personal service.
Skilled and professional, our guides have a depth of outdoor experience and a love of wild places. We are medically trained as Wilderness First Responders, and are committed to providing an educational and experiential adventure to each and every one of our clients.

Tents and Trails How do you envision Alaska? Is it seen from the cockpit of a sea kayak as massive mountains of ice crash into the sea in the distance? Is it the simple pleasure in tired muscles after a long day on the trail? Is it the exhilaration of encountering North America’s largest land carnivore on her own turf?
Truth is, all of these experiences and adventures in three of Alaska’s best National Parks can be yours in one trip. As we loop across the biggest state we’ll go in search of all the wondrous sights and experiences that make a trip to Alaska so rewarding; communing with the wild creatures and magnificent peaks of Denali; sea kayaking among the calving glaciers and abundant sea life of Kenai Fjords National Park; and hiking beneath the incomparable mountain scenery of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park
Cordova Explorer Cordova is simply Alaska’s best hidden treasure! Nestled along the calm waters of Prince William Sound, Cordova is the maritime gateway to Wrangell-St. Elias National Park – the largest national park in the system (13 million acres) and home to 9 of the 16 highest peaks in North America!
This 3-day excursion from Anchorage will take us cruising across Prince William Sound, hiking along the Copper River Delta, and exploring the unbelievable Childs Glacier! We’ll spend our 2 nights at the amazing Orca Adventure Lodge – Alaska’s most unique adventure destination!
Backcountry Pursuit What is going to set your Alaskan Adventure apart from the rest? How about the Kesugi Ridge, Skolai Pass, the Shoup Glacier for starters? Never heard of any of these places? Good! That means you’ll be part of a small adventurous population that seeks to get off the beaten path and see Alaska’s marquee sights and two of its greatest National Parks in an up-close and personal way. With boots on your feet, a pack on your back, or a paddle in your hands, you’ll experience Alaska and not just see it!
Source to Sea Alaska’s greatest asset may actually be its diversity and the state’s superlatives simply defy the imagination. Our popular Source to Sea adventure will allow you to sample the wonders of Alaska by hiking, kayaking, rafting, cruising and flying through it’s vast wilderness – all while enjoying the comforts of nightly accommodations in some of Alaska’s most famous lodges and B&B’s.
