The Selkirk Mountains of British Columbia

Long known for the great powder snow they get, the Selkirks are now the premier destination for backcountry skiers, heliskiers and cat skiers. Kicking Horse Mountain resort in Golden, is the newest ski hill in the Selkirks and has fast gained a reputation for great skiing. Sorcerer Lodge is located right in the middle of all this. From the top of Iconoclast Mountain, we can see Mt Sir Sandford in the distance, and look right across several valleys into the Rogers Pass Area. On a clear day the Columbia icefields are visible and The Bugaboos to the south can be seen.

Trails and Routes

General:

Sorcerer Lodge operates in terrain that is appropriate for intermediate to advanced backcountry enthusiasts. IT is not beginner country at any time of the year. There is a significant amount of glaciated terrain. In the winter, some areas are steep and challenging. Although the bad weather tree skiing is excellent, it is not for the faint of heart and involves steep rolls and bumps. Lot's of fun if you're comfortable with that.

In the summer, there are practically no trails. This is mountaineering country at it's best but it is quite innapropriate for beginner hikers or anyone with vertigo or a fear of heights. It's rugged, remote and challenging. There is rock climbing, ice climbing and glacier travel with stunning views and many waterfalls and lakes. If you're comfortable walking off trail and have reasonable fitness combined with a sense of adventure, you'll love it up here.
