Athabasca Glacier Icewalks
The Athabasca Glacier, at the Columbia Icefield in Jasper National Park, is readily accessible from the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93). Daily from June through September, Icewalk guides lead groups of up to 15 people onto this active glacier flowing from the icefield. The trips range in length from three to six hours and are suitable for anyone from seven to 70. The guides will assess your capabilities, assist you in selecting suitable footwear and clothing, and ask you to sign a waiver, before proceeding onto the ice. The overall distance covered on the trips is between two and eight kilometres (one and a half to five miles). Although the distance isn't long, the terrain is never level and one needs to pay attention at all times.
Our guides have many years of experience on glaciers and are always happy to share their knowledge and expertise with you. From deep crevasses at your feet to distant ice avalanches, there is always something to see and discover. We can take you and your family there and back safely. Join us for a memorable adventure into the world of glacier ice.
