AMC Launches New Outdoors.org

MONDAY, 30 AUGUST 2010

The Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) announced the launch of its redesigned Outdoors.org website, the one-stop guide to the Northeast outdoors. Significant new features include “one-click” activity search for thousands of AMC activities, guided programs, and volunteer opportunities. The AMC’s most popular content is also updated continually, allowing visitors to quickly find current trail conditions at the AMC’s New Hampshire and Maine destinations, the latest AMC blog posts, and recent AMC news on outdoor recreation and conservation. “One-click” lodging search also makes it easy to check availability at AMC lodges and huts.

The Outdoors.org website is a comprehensive resource for learning about outdoor trips and preparation, outdoor education and leadership training, urban youth programs, air quality and alpine ecosystem research, trail protection and maintenance, and land conservation advocacy. It also offers expert advice on outdoor gear, safety, and technique, plus summer and winter trip ideas from the editors of AMC Outdoors and AMC Books.

New www.outdoors.org features include:
  • One-click search for the AMC’s full range of activities, including guided programs in the Northeast and worldwide, local chapter-led activities from Maine to Washington, DC, and volunteer opportunities to help maintain hiking trails
  • One-click availability search for AMC lodges in New Hampshire, Maine, and New Jersey, plus AMC White Mountain huts
  • Updated trail and weather conditions at AMC lodges and huts in northern New England
  • Latest AMC blog posts about outdoor gear, trail work, getting outdoors with kids, AMC huts, and other outdoor recreation and conservation topics
  • New AMC Outdoors magazine and online exclusive stories
  • Deals and discounts for AMC destinations, books, and maps
  • Personalized homepage content for AMC members, including membership information and chapter activities
  • Social media buttons to connect with AMC on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube
Visit the new Outdoors.org before September 20, 2010 and enter to win AMC’s grand prize giveaway for a two-night stay at AMC lodges in New Hampshire, Maine, or New Jersey. Additional prizes include outdoor gear from Merrell® and Outdoor Research, plus copies of Bestseller Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin and Stones into Schools by Greg Mortenson.

Founded in 1876, the Appalachian Mountain Club is America’s oldest conservation and recreation organization. With more than 100,000 members, advocates, and supporters in the Northeast and beyond, the nonprofit AMC promotes the protection, enjoyment, and understanding of the mountains, forests, waters, and trails of the Appalachian region. The AMC supports natural resource conservation while encouraging responsible recreation, based on the philosophy that successful, long-term conservation depends upon first-hand enjoyment of the natural environment.
