On June 6, 2009, American Hiking Society and outdoor enthusiasts across the country will celebrate the 17th annual National Trails Day® (NTD), a long-standing celebration of America's magnificent trail system and its countless supporters and volunteers. More than 1,500 events will take place around the country including trail maintenance, hiking, paddling, biking, horseback riding, bird watching, running and trail celebrations.

The theme for NTD 2009, Take in the Outdoors, is an open invitation to all Americans to get outside, connect with local hiking clubs, outdoor retailers, local parks and recreation departments or federal land managing agencies to experience everything the great outdoors has to offer. "American Hiking Society's National Trails Day® serves as a gateway to introduce youth and adults to the outdoors and an opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts to give back," said Greg Miller, American Hiking Society president.

Since 1993, National Trails Day has inspired thousands of people and community groups to take part in activities that promote healthy living, protect green space, educate youth and adults on the importance of trails, and instill excitement for the outdoors. Plan now to host or attend an event in your area.

Join American Hiking Society and our sponsors, Nature Valley, Backpacker Magazine, Merrell and Fetzer® Vineyards, and partners REI, YMCA, and American Park Network for a National Trails Day event near you. If your community organization would like to host an event or to find out more about NTD 2009, contact Heather Sable, Trail Programs Manager, at hsable@americanhiking.org or (800) 972-8608 x.204 or visit AmericanHiking.org today.

Difficult economic times mean tough choices when it comes to vacations or family outings. Discretionary spending is crimped in favor of hunkering down and waiting out the bad cycle. Expensive vacations often times go by the wayside. But that doesn't mean you have to shut down the family trip completely. Outdoor camping is a lower cost alternative that delivers fun for the entire family and will r esult in good memories well after the economy recovers. All you need is a bit of planning. In particular, your choice of tents. There is a wide variety of tents for sale that provide lots of flexibility in choices.

Big Cost Savings - Deciding to go on an outdoor family camping trip means big time savings over other vacation decisions. First, the lodging cost is minimized since you are staying outdoors in a cabin. Second, the dining cost is reduced since most likely a few of your meals will be cooked right at your campsite instead of more expensive restaurants. As a side benefit, you're likely to eat healthier.

Bonding Opportunity - Family outdoor camping will provide a good opportunity for family bonding. There are so few of these opportunities in our lives that this could be a welcome chance to get everybody together in one spot for a few days. Other vacation options such as amusement parks take this chance away in favor of a hectic experience. The campground gives everybody plenty of room to roam around and stretch out. It just means that everybody gets back together at night time.

Flexible Tent Designs - There is no reason to fear hanging out with the family in a tent. Tent designs have come a long way over the last few years. Higher walls with straight wall surfaces mean more interior room to move around. Room dividers allow for private space within the tent itself. Ingenious storage spots have been created that bring your stuff inside to protect it from the elements. Setting up the tent itself has never been easier and can be a fun experience for the entire family.

Tent Prices Represent a Great Buy - The good news about tents is they represent great value for your investment. Depending on the size and number of persons, tents can range from $100 to several hundred dollars, with most tents in the $150 - $450 range. Compare this with the cost of lodging accommodations and the trade-off is obvious. Another important economic factor to consider is that the tent represents an investment. Finding a good family tent that works means future use of the tent and lots of opportunities for future family camping trips.

Flexible Vacation Destination - Deciding to plan a family camping trip does require some pre-planning. Campsites can get booked well ahead of time and lots of families will be choosing to go camping for their vacation outing this year. However, there are loads of possible campsites to choose from. Getting there by car and loading up your camping gear is all that is required. Compare this with the destination resort vacation where you have to lock into a fixed location offering no flexibility. Once again, the family camping outing offers a great alternative in terms of last minute changes.

Tough times doesn't mean you can't still have your fun family trip away. It just means you have to change up your thinking. Consider the benefits of a camping trip with the family as a preferable alternative to a much more expensive destination vacation. Do some research on the various tents for sale in the marketplace and choose a solid investment that will provide years of future camping fun for you and your family.

We are a nation of happy campers. We love it whether it is in a tiny tent, big huge family tent, caravan, campervan, or just in the middle of a field in a sleeping bag!

But one issue arises with nature calling. When at home, it is fine, we just pop to our lovely clean loo and do the business in relative piece, quiet, and comfort. When you're out camping though this big luxury is obvio
usly taken away from you. Unfortunately, many of the blocks of toilets and other facilities provided by camp sites often aren't particularly desirable. Even if they are well kept and clean, they can be unpleasant.

One way to get over this is to buy yourself a nice camping toilet. Surprisingly, they are relatively low-cost and easy to get hold of from quite a few major retailers. To help consumers with more information, a new website called www.campingtoilet.org.uk has been set-up, it does what it says on the tin.

On the microsite there is information about buying, as well as some videos, images of camping, and other details as well. Happy camping everyone!

Consumer focused microsites focusing on a variety of niche products available to buy in stores in the UK and worldwide.
