Trails, Campgrounds at Steamboat Springs Now Open

Several hiking trails and campgrounds at Steamboat Springs, Colorado are now open and ready for use, according to an announcement made by the Forestry officials last June 27.

Some of the campgrounds that are now open to the public include the Dry Lake which is located in Buffalo Pass, the Dumont Lake, a section of the Seedhouse Campground, the Freeman Reservoir campground, the Bear L ake, Cold Springs, Horseshoe, Vaughn Lake, and the Chapman Reservoir.

Hikers may now use the 100 Road which runs from the Red Dirt Road to the Rabbit Ears Pass and the Flattops Trail Scenic Byway Trail.

Adirondack Hiking Trail to Undergo Changes

The Adirondack Hiking Trail in New York will be undergoing some changes. The trail is being maintained by the state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).

DEC recently revealed its plans to move the southern station of the said trail about six miles to the south in order to keep hikers from hiking on the highway.

Meanwhile, a new hiking route is currently await ing the final approval from the Shaker Mountain Unit Management Plan. The trail will lead hikers through the mountains surrounding Giffords Valley to the West Stony Creek, and passes through Benson Road.

Victor Hiking Team to Hold Hiking Trip in Ithaca

The Victor Hiking Trails, Inc. of Victor, NY is inviting all hiking and outdoor enthusiasts to join their hiking trip in Ithaca which will be held on July 12.

According to the event organizers, the group will hike in the Robert H. Treman State Park or the Buttermilk Falls.

Participants are requested to bring their own packed lunch and wear appropriate hiking clothes and shoes.

All hikers who will participate in the said trip will be meeting at 8am at the parking lot in 85 E. Main Street.

Safe Hiking Promoted in Honor of Meredith Emerson

Right to Hike, Inc. is calling all hiking and outdoor enthusiasts to join them in their effort to promote hiking safety through Dining to Donate program in metro Atlanta Applebee's restaurants. The Dining to Donate program is a tribute to hiker Meredith Emerson who was abducted and murdered during the New Year's Day hike in North Georgia.

The event will take place tonight, June 25. R ight to Hike will also hold a demonstration at the Applebee's Perimeter Center Place location. Board members and friends of Emerson will be present.

The group hopes to raise money to equip hikers and outposts with pagers which will notify authorities of their locations in times of emergency.

Free Guided Hikes at Castle Wilderness Area

The Castle-Crown Wilderness Coalition is giving all hiking enthusiasts the opportunity to hike along the Castle Wilderness area in Alberta, Canada for free this summer.

According to the group's Executive Director Judy Huntley, the hiking trips will not only give the visitors the chance to see various parts of the southwestern part of the province but will also serve as a great exerci se for them.

All hikes offered by the coalition are guided, most hiking trips are free, with the exception of a hiking trip hosted by the Alberta Wilderness Association.

The said trips normally last for a day, though some overnight trips may also be available.
