Take a Hike & Explore North Portland

The Gresham Seniors Hiking Group is calling on all hiking enthusiasts and outdoor lovers to join a brief and interesting hiking trip tomorrow, February 29.

Aside from a refreshing walk outdoors, event participants will get a chance to explore a historic area located in North Portland. The group will also visit the Willamette River to Cathedral Park and the St. Johns Bridge.

The group will be meeting at the Ambleside Center, Multnomah County East Building, 600 N.E. Eighth St., Gresham. Interested participants are advised to arrive at the meeting area before ten in the morning. Hikers also need to bring lunch money and donation for gas.

Hikers Invited to Adopt a Trail

The Union County Hiking is inviting all hiking enthusiasts as well as outdoor lovers who go to the Watchung Reservation to adopt a trail and give something back to the environment.

The group has organi zed an “Adopt-a-Trail” orientation as well as a general meeting which will be held on March 8 at 8:30am.

The event is open to everyone who is interested in adopting a section of a hiking or bridle trail. The said orientation will include an introduction to the Adopt-A-Trail Program. This involves a discussion on Invasive Plant Management, the How To’s of Maintenance, and updates on trail projects.

The Watchung Reservation is the largest park in Union County, New Jersey.

Take a Hike into Volunteering to be Held March 1

A special hike and learn trip will be held at the Lookout Mountain Land Conservancy (LMC) this Saturday, March 1.

The event has been aptly dubbed, “Take a Hike into Volunteering”. It was organized by t he American Hiking Society, in collaboration with the National Park Service Trails.

The hike is about 3.5 miles. The trip will enable event participants to engage in a moderate physical activity and at the same time, learn something about the LMC, the Reflection Arboretum & Botanical Garden, the Tennessee River Gorge Trust, and Jeffrey Hunter’s work.

Stranded Hiker at Franconia Ridge Rescued

A rescued hiker claimed that he is lucky to be alive and that he owes an eternal debt to his rescuer.

The hiker was identified as 36-year old James Osborne, a resident of Manchester. Osborne was rescue d from Franconia Ridge and had survived a terrible storm in the area.

According to reports, Osborne and his friend Laurence Fredrickson, 55 years old, were on a hiking trip across the two-mile Franconia Ridge about 4,700 feet when the storm occurred.

The two hikers were found by the Army National Guard helicopter at the summit of Little Haystack the following morning. Unfortunately, Fredrickson passed away due to severe hypothermia.

MapBuzz Teams Up with Colorado Mountain Club

The CMC, with headquarters in Golden, Colorado, is one of the oldest hiking organizations in the country and has a number of active chapters throughout Colorado.
