The officials of the Mammoth Cave National Park at Kentucky are currently seeking public opinion on the new draft of the Comprehensive Trail Management Plan.

A public open house has been set this coming February 7 at around six to eight in the evening. This will be held at the Ma
mmoth Cave Hotel, where the people are welcome to submit written comments as well as to ask questions.

The said draft first began in 2006, and will affect the park’s management and usage of trails for the next 10 to 15 years.

The current draft includes five alternatives which address issues on facility, visitors and management.

A new 41-kilometer hiker’s paradise called the Mourne Way has recently opened at Ulsters, Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The hiking trail is strategically situated among the misty peaks of the Mourne Mountain which is located in South Down. It passes through Newcastle to Restrevor.


The trail was first introduced to the public along with 13 Access Improvement Schemes to improve car parks along the mountains.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Newry and Mourne District Council has expressed his gratitude to all parties that extended financial support to the said project. These include Peace II Programme and the Natural Resource Rural Tourism Initiative.

Several hiking trails situated in Central Ontario’s Haliburton region have been declared official snowshoeing areas for this winter season.

According to a press release by Haliburton Highlands Tourism, a total of nine trails measuring over 75 kilometers will be one of the most ex
tensive snowshoeing options available in the province.

The trails have varying lengths – from 750 meters to 10 kilometers. The trails will cater to various snowshoeing enthusiasts, from beginners to the experienced.

The said trails are located in Carnarvon, Oxtongue Lake, Halls Lake, Kennisis Lake, Frost Centre (which is located close to Dorset), and the village of Haliburton.

Over 25 mountain biking enthusiasts and volunteers have worked together to complete the Philpott Trail last Saturday, January 26.

The group was composed of volunteers from Henry County Bike Club, Franklin Free-Wheelers, the Southern Virginia Mountain Bike Association, the
Dan River Basin Association, Franklin County Parks and Recreation, and Martinsville Rivers and Trails.

The group had worked over six hours in order to complete the installation of the 1,000-feet trail, incorporating it on the system of trails at the Jamison Recreation area, located at the Philpott Lake.

The system of trails will enable outdoor lovers to enjoy mountain biking and hiking.

Pittsburg’s hiking and biking trail project is set to kick off soon. This is after the city granted the bid for the project to local developer, Home Center Construction.

This project has been highly anticipated for the past couple of years. The actual construction is expected to
begin this coming spring.

The trail project is expected to cost more than $400,000. Most of the expenses will be shouldered by the Kansas Department of Transportation. Meanwhile, the city will contribute nearly $100,000.
