New Trail Deal Offered by Stanford University

WEDNESDAY, 28 MARCH 2007

A new offer has been made by Stanford University last Friday, postponing any decision about a hiking trail plan until April 10.

The offer is comprised of an $8.4 million pay to San Mateo Country that will finance the improvement of an existing hiking trail. Some of the payment will also be used for other country trails and recreation needs.

San Mateo County Supervisors Rich Gordon and Jerry Hill had recommended the rejection of an earlier plan, which consisted of "realigning Alpine Road near the Weekend Acres housing area" and "cutting down part of a hillside". The new plan does not involve Alpine Road. Larry Horton, Stanford University's director of community and government relations, explained that Santa Clara Country also has to approve the new plan with San Mateo Country.
