Hiking Tips Shared During the Winter Trails Day

MONDAY, 19 FEBRUARY 2007

Safety tips for hiking were given during the second annual Winter Trails Day at Tahoe Meadows sponsored by the US Forest Service and the Tahoe Rim Trail Association.

The hiking safety tips include bringing water during the hike and keeping in mind that knowing the hiking trails does not guarantee its safety. Greg Marsden, a member of the National Ski Patrol, says that the biggest mistake done by hikers is "when they do not return soon enough".

"The best idea is to pick a time to turn around before you go out," Marsden said. "If you're not at a certain point by a certain time, you need to rethink and turn around. You never want to time these things to get back to the car when it's already dark," he added.

A guided hike was also included in the event aside from the sharing of hiking safety tips. Around thirty people attended the Winter Trails Day at Tahoe Meadows.
