New Trail to be built in Central City
FRIDAY, 24 NOVEMBER 2006
Nebraska - An eight-mile trail for hiking, biking, and horseback riding will be in store for residents and outdoor enthusiasts from Central City.
The Nebraska Trails Foundation will be buying a railroad track located in between Central City and Marquette, in accordance with their agreement with Burlington Northern Santa Fe. The railroad track which starts from Central City High School to Marquette will be turned into a recreational trail.
About $150,000 is needed to buy the land. Two-thirds of the estimated budget will be coming from the Merrick Foundation. However, the foundation is still applying grants for the trail, and construction will possibly start in 2008. Moreover, trail building and development will probably take five years to finish.
