In this age of automated transport, television enhanced perceptions and ‘cotton-woolled’ safety regulations, it is refreshing to realize that there are still some ‘back to basics’ challenges left untouched for the adventurous traveller.
Despite never having hiked before, George Spearing who is a firefighter from Auckland, New Zealand, decided to take ‘leave of absence’ and walk the entire length of America.
His recently published paperback, "Dances With Marmots - A Pacific Crest Trail Adventure" follows his journey along the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada.
This long distance trail travels up through the desert areas and snowbound high Sierra Nevada of California, the Cascade ranges of Oregon and Washington, and finally emerges in the Okanogan Forest of British Columbia, Canada.
The diverse mix of terrain and characters met along the way are captured in the book, providing an inspiring and often humorous look at the US and its wilderness through the eyes of a New Zealander.
Further details on the publication can be found at www.danceswithmarmots.com.
