3rd Annual Northwoods Triathlon to be Held Mar. 5

The exciting 3rd Annual Northwoods Triathlon will take place on March 5 at Gore Mountain in North Creek, New York. The Traithlon will combine the disciplines nordic skiing, downhill skiing and snowshoeing.

Interested parties who want to join as a team are required to compete with at least one woman or an Ironperson. There will be two runs on the Twin Fawns race course with the best ru n counted in the final score. In the snowshoeing event, a challenging course is set for snowshoers that spawns for at least 2.4 miles. The nordic skiing course in the meanwhile, is approximately 5.5 miles.

Registration is on-site. Those who will be competing as a team are required to be present during registration to sign a waiver. The event will be based on a points system with each leg weighing equally in the final score. Registration fee is $15 per person. Winners will be determined on a points system, so each leg weighs equally toward final standings.

Special Olympics at Sunlight on Feb. 24

The Northwestern Colorado Special Olympics Skiing will make its way towards Sunlight Mountain on February 24 for its skiing and snowshoeing competition. The event is the western regional qualifiers for the 2006 Winter Games. Nearly 550 athletes join the event every year. Also, athletes will be competing in five disciplines: alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, figure skating, snowshoeing and snow boarding.

The Special Olympics Colorado's goal is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in different Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities to give them the opportunity to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and share the joy with their loved ones.

Volunteer to Clear The Way on Feb 18

Wicked Adventure Racing together with the Department of Natural Resources will co-sponsor two volunteer trail work parties on February 18 in Portland, Oregon. All the people who want to help out are encouraged to join in.

Participants will meet in the Rock Creek Campground. The vegetation will be cleared in the Tarbell Train within the Yacolt Burn State Forest, between the Rock Creek Campground. Great prizes will be raffled off courtesy of REI and Next Adventure.

Grateful Dads Hike on Feb. 25 and 26

Join the Colorado Mountain club (CMC) as they trek the land of the Lord of the Rings in New Zealand. Participants will be taken through the Milford and Routeburn Tracks, two of the most picturesque tracks of New Zealand.

Cost of the trip is $3,565 inclusive of air fares, ground transportation, boat ride, lodging, group gear, CMC outing fee and track fees. Food can be purchased upon ar rival in New Zealand. During off days, participants can spend the day in Queenstown and North Island.
