Alabama offers a wide variety of Hiking trails. It has different trails which are suitable for hikers of all abilities. Alabama trails are not only for hikers. Mountain bikers are also welcome in most Hiking trails.
Alabama is divided into three parts: the Northern, Central, and Southern Alabama. Each has its own set of trails that can easily attract local hikers and tourists.
North Alabama
- Lake Guntersville State Park This has the greatest topographical diversity - in elevation and challenge.
- Bucks Pocket State Park It has a six-mile horseback trail.
- Cheaha State Park This has an elevated, interpretive boardwalk trail/competitive eight-mile mountain bike trail.
- Desoto State Park - This has an elevated, interpretive boardwalk trail/walking trail with the most diverse plant communities.
- Monte Sano State Park This has moderate to difficult trails for mountain bikers.
Central Alabama
- Oak Mountain State Park This has the most diverse trail system - 52 miles for walking/Hiking, Mountain Biking, and horseback riding.
- Lake Lurleen State Park This popular Hiking destination offers family-oriented biking and Hiking trails.
- Wind Creek State Park When you take the three-mile walk in this park, you will be surrounded with mixed hardwood/pine forest and spring wildflowers.
South Alabama
- Frank Jackson State Park This area offers the only true island Hiking experience.
- Meaher State Park It has an elevated, interpretive boardwalk, with the view of the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta as the trip's highlight.
