I hate crowds, and the public in general. So, I found early on that I love being alone in the bosom of Mother Nature. I have the advantage of being quite close to a National Forest. It's nearly my 'backyard'!

My father made a living hunting and working in the forests and mountains of New Zealand and started taking me out with him when I was very young ( I think as soon as I could walk ) so I grew up in the mountains and woods and hiking is just a way to get back to my roots and something that is very natural for me .

I used to live with my grandparents when I was a kid since my parents are both busy in their work. Grandpa and I would often go up the mountain to visit and checked the seeds he planted.
I spent many of my childhood days in the mountains. Hiking for me then was going up the mountain/hills to pick fruits and sliding from the top to the foot using the big leaf (I don't remember the name of that tree having that big leaves) that could accomodate me.
That's how my story in hiking begins..

Hiking should be in your blood. You don't just start hiking. You have to want it. You have to feel the urge to get out, to see nature, to feel the freedom of it. You can't just walk 20 km a day - you have to enjoy it. As long as I remember myself I loved nature. In my early youth I didn't get to hike a lot, but I always wanted to. So later, when I got the first chance I started hiking and now I wouldn't change it for anything else. Hiking is my meditation.
Well, maybe I am wrong about this, but I believe in everything I said here :)
