Well, after a few months of planning and preparation, I have finally gotten my vacation dates approved by work. So, the trip has been booked and it's off to Scotland in June to hike the West Highland Way.
2 nights camping and 4 nights in a hostel on the way up and once I reach Fort WIlliam, it's 3 nights in a B&B. All told, much cheaper than just the airline ticket for my annual trip to India.
Has anyone else ever hiked the WHW? If so, what were the highlights of the trip for you? What should I keep an eye out for? What little things did you forget, so that I won't?

Hello Brad, Good luck with your pending hike!
I haven't hiked the West Highland Way, but have hiked up through the Scottish highlands and am sure you will enjoy the experience. Having said that, there are probably two things that may affect the enjoyment - one is the possibility of rain/cloud obscuring vistas and the other is the formidable midges, (Ceratopogonidae) a form of gnat that inhabits areas of the highlands. You won't be able to do much about the weather, but make sure you take a good repellent for the midges! Particularly in wooded areas.
I don't think any repellent will be 100% effective, but Deet is a known help or if you don't wish to cover yourself with that particular chemical product then there is one that is recommended called "Shoo" which is 'deet free'.
