Hi Dlia,
This is a very broad question you ask. If anyone would decide to answer you in one post, it would take a couple of pages at least
The equipment you will need depends on where you want to hike, and with whom. If you hike alone, a tent for three persons will be too heavy for you since you have all other equipment to carry. Basically what you need for hiking is a good footwear, clothes matching the season and the place of hiking, sleeping bag and mat, a tent, a flashlight, a stove for cooking (if you want a hot meal at the end of the day) and some cooking equipment. Trekking poles are recommended. I am sure that people here will add to this list, but if you want more detailed advice please be more specific about your hiking intentions.
I would suggest you to start with short and easy hikes and gradually increase the duration and difficulty as you get more in shape. And at least in the beginning don't hike alone.
I hope this helped.

boots, backpacks, tents, sleeping bags.... they're all here - http://www.abc-of-hiking.com/info/hiking-gear.asp

in buying your actual equipment, keep in mind to always pick the one that works for you best....

Tents can be a bit tough to research due to the fact that most stores don't have enough space to display many of them. I try to rely on top brands (Sierra Designs, Big Agnes, etc) and read reviews on places like Amazon.

If your just a beginner I would keep it to the basic. There's alot of sporting equipment sold every year that's used once or twice and get's lost in the closet. Ask me about my gold clubs. As you become more adicted you can adjust your gear as time goes. I think to many people get caught up the fashion and fancyness of things. Everyone individual needs are different. Keep in mind you need to be comfortable and practicle. I buy, sell, trade things all the time. Try army surplus store, ebay, and second hand stores for assorted gear. One of the best tools you'll every have is this web-site.
