Hi Guys,

i do a lot of walking in the tropics in Brazil and it gets pretty hot and wet. I''m in desperate need of a good, waterproof, stowable, lightweight jacket. Any suggestions? Got to be resistant to heavy rain showers...but not suffocatingly hot for 90 degrees plus daytime temperatures.

many thanks.

I'd recommend something with Gore Tex PacLite or Gore Tex ProShell. Both waterproof and breathable. However both are quite expensive. Most breathable garments are like wearing a trash bag, keep you dry but you get wet from the inside due to poor breathability. These fabrics seem to breath the best of all of them and be light weight. The light weight comes from the minimal/lightweight outer and inner fabrics. In hot humid conditions however waterproof and breathable is tough to find. Check out the Mountain Hardwear Typhoon for a fairly affordable Gore PacLite jacket.
