Hi again
Those boots look ok and should do the job, the only thing is how long will they last but no problem, if you take care of them after each trip like fully dry them out and re-water proof them now and again they should do the job .

What kinds of boots have good in-sole cushioning? I once walked several hours on sports shoes, and my feet hurt for about three days after that - it was a lot worse when I was wearing formal shoes (not for hiking, though - I was job hunting).

For hiking, get the boots a half-size or full size larger than your normal size, depending on your socks. Your feet will swell while walking. Gel inserts are great too!

Good advice. I buy my boots a full size bigger than my normal size and always wear two pairs of socks - thin polyprop inner pair with thick hiking sock outer. Never have problems.
I should think that some boot designs will suit some feet better than others, but I use an Asolo leather boot (TPS 535 wide fit) and can't fault them.

I can give you two tips when choosing or buying a boots.
Fit it in, make sure you are comfortable.
Buy a brand that is well known. Though its expensive, you can be sure of the quality.

i don't really pay emphasis in the brand.. hikers know the best brands out there, but not the ones necessarily expensive.. try on different kinds and sizes which is comfortable.. know about the, dont just trust the salesman.. hehe..

I just got a new pair of boots, and am breaking them in now. Not being able to afford multiple pairs for different functions, and being 'old school' ,I have chosen a pair of all-leather work boots from Georgia Boot. Styled like GI boots, but better padding and support, a well-padded foot bed. And, I went with size 15 - I normally wear 14's, but my toes are at the front end on the old boots. Good support, decent comfort, and room for the 'little piggies'...
These will do multiple duty - hiking, yard work, MC riding, hunting. Not the best for any one use, but a good compromise for all I need.

So far, been wearing them all week.  A bit of soreness the first day, working them in.  By Friday, on my  feet all day - they feel great!  I'll do a local 'Nature Trail' next weekend to try them over a few miles, before committing to a long hike.  I learned to NEVER try NEW gear the first time on a long trip - if it don't work, it can be worse than just painful!
