i know this sounds absurd to most of you but i bought a manual slr that the manufacturer faced out a year ago meaning no more parts available in the market or anywhere else and no more maintenance services. i was feeling nostalgic and sad at the same time, looking at the dslrs in the market (though i also own one) and how easy the photos are taken and produced and how it doesnt require much talent.... im ranting i know i cant help it

i agree, suddenly we are all photographers, even those who you never thought would pick up a shutter. i love the convenience of dslrs though, you don't have to print each shot, less waste of paper and film. the talent though, tsk tsk tsk

oh i agree sometimes i just miss holding a real print in your hands, the feeling of the glossy paper, the ability to touch the images just as you took it.

i like the convenience of dslrs though, you can preview the prints at once unlike manual slrs, you have to wait for the prints to see the shots, what if you're out in the wild?

i agree what if you're taking photos for documentation purposes? dslrs will be able to tell you if you need a better shot

sometimes it's the instant factor that ruins it

after dslrs came out i forgot all about my manual camera. it can be really expensive for me to have several rolls of film processed and end up with just one roll of useful prints

you need to learn how to take better pictures then in my opinion, i think it all boils down to skill and talent

all you need is practice take your camera everywhere and just shoot. it doesn't hurt to learn a bit about composition, lighting, etc. but once you get the hang of it, you'll find it comes naturally. treat the camera like an extension of yourself, like an extra limb. there comes a point when you start feeling like something's missing when you're not clutching a camera. doesn't even matter if it's a dinky old point-and-shoot or a professional dslr. as a friend once told me, it's not the equipment, it's the idiot behind the wheel!
