We are a group of newbie hikers who are thinking of hiking Volcan Tacana in Chiapas, Mexico or Volcan Tajumulco in Guatemala. According to research so far, it seems to be an easy trail. However, is this from a seasoned hikers standpoint? They are respectively the highest and second highest points in Central America but, from what I understand, the hike starts in fairly high altitudes.
So is there anyone out there that has done this hike that can define easy hike for me???? Also, most places suggest taking a guide if you are alone or don''t speak spanish. We will be a group of 4, live in Mexico and can speak spanish. But we are beginners... Can we get by without a guide? We would much prefer to do it on our own and take our time.
Any advice, suggestions or recommendations of a better hike suited to our level, would be greatly appreciated!
