Hi - I am new to hiking and would love to find an area in Colorado where I can take my dog, a 3 year old Golden Retriever, with me. I''ve been advised that national parks are out so any suggestions as to where to go would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much-

Jessie

Hi Jessie! Welcome to the site!

As for your question, national parks aren't entirely out for you and your dog. The Great Sand Dunes National Park allows dogs provided that they are on a leash. Same goes for Bent’s Old Fort—located between La Junta and Las Animas.

You can also check out Aspen, the Boulder Flatirons and the extensive trail network on Mt. Royal.

Hope these suggestions help you out. Good luck!
