At 8463 meters, Makalu is the world's fifth highest peak. It is situated 14 miles east of Mount Everest. Its form - perfect pyramid with four sharp ridges - is one very distinctive features of Makalu.
The name Makalu was from the word Maha-Kala. This is a Sanskrit word which means Big Black. It is likewise a by-name of Shiva. He is one of the most prominent gods of Hinduism.
How to Get There
The neareast major airport is located at Kathmandu, Nepal. From here, you can go trekking to reach the Makalu Base Camp.
Best Time to Climb
Pre-monsoon (April and May) and post-monsoon (late September and October) seasons offer good climbing conditions.
