This particular area has been closed to visitors for a long time for a variety of reasons - including its remoteness. Then, the region west and north of Dhaulagiri was opened to trekkers travelling in organized groups, making it possible for trekkers to go behind and north of the Dhaulagiri massif, to explore the remote villages and valleys, which had been the sole domain of mountaineers.
