The Classic Kenya Expedition

Join Adventure Trippin on a once in a lifetime adventure, whitewater raft the mighty Tana and Mathioya rivers, trek with traditional Masai Warriors across the desertlike landscape of the Laikipia Plateau and visit some of Africa's finest game reserves.

Our journey takes place on the Western flanks of Mt Kenya, Africa's second highest peak, during this journey you will camp wild under the stars, stay in world class 5 star wilderness lodges, have top quality meals cooked over an open fire, restaurant meals to rival those in the city. This is a journey of contrasts, you will experience Kenya, rather than just view it through a car window. Not only will you meet local people you will get to know them, also travellers form countries potentially far formy our own. It will be at times exciting, other times awe inspiring and yep sometimes hot, tiring and a little uncomfortable (trekking through the desert has that effect sometimes), but your guides will be with you every step of the way (providing waterlmelon stops at all the appropriate times), giving advice when required and valuable local infomation throughout the course of the trip. So if adventure is what you are after, then this could be the trip for you, the basic outline of the trip is as follows;

3 days Class IV whitewater rafting, 3 days camel trekking, 3 days game viewing, 2 nights in luxury lodges, 2 nights in top quality hotels.

Daily Schedule
Day 1
Arrive in Nairobi where you will be met by an adventuretrippintours.com representative where you will be transferred to your accommodation at the Jacaranda Hotel. Those arriving earlier in the day will have time to explore the Westlands area of Nairobi and it's curio markets before a welcome dinner at Peppers restaurant.

Day 2
After a leisurely start to brush off the jet lag we will meet for lunch at the Jacaranda restaurant. After lunch we will take the 2 hour drive north to our River base at Sagana on the Tana River. the late afternoon can be spent settling into your chosen accommodation, relaxing by the pool and we will finish the night off with a BBQ on the river bank.

Day 3
After a large cooked and continental breakfast we will make preperations for our first whitewater rafting adventure on the Class IV+ Tana River. At the base you will be outfitted with all the necessary safety equipment, and you will be given a detailed briefing and description of what is to come. After that we will drive to the put-in, review some key safety points and then we will embark on the 16km's of exciting whitewater and beautiful scenery the Tana has to offer.

Day 4
Today we will drive North East around the flanks of Mt Kenya to the world renowned Samburu National Park. We will drive through all manner of terrain before arriving at the park gates mid-afternoon. After some time settling into your lodge accommodation we will partake in an evening game drive where we are likely to see impala, dik dik, giraffe, elephants, crocodiles and potentially see zebra, lion, cheetah and many more African beasts. After the game drive we will meet for a 5 course meal in the lodge restaurant.

Day 5
Another day in the park, today we will partake in an early morning game drive, followed by a buffet breakfast then, some down time to relax and drink a beer or cocktail by the pool. Then in the evening (dependent on river level) we will take a sundowner game float in the rafts along the Ewaso Ngiro river to view the animals up close and personal whilst they are having there evening wash.

Day 6
After a morning game drive we will head to the park gates and meet our local Masai guides and we will set off on our camel trek up the Ewaso Ngiro river valley and across the Laikipia Plateau. There is the possibility we could see all kinds of wildlife on this trek. The local guides have an intricate knowledge of this region and can answer any questions you may have. Tonight we will camp in luxury under the African sky.

Day 7
After a hearty breakfast and an early start to escape the heat of the day we will continue to trek across this beautiful landscape, making camp by 2:30pm. Then a night under the stars, sitting by a roaring campfire.

Day 8
At the end of today we will arrive at Tassia, one of Kenya's finest luxurywilderness lodges. Here in your own private rooms you will have the opportunity to wash away 3 days worth of trekking in your open air baths. Two nights at this lodge will recharge even the most tired of bodies. We can arrange fishing trips, sundowner hikes and game walks for those interested. Though for many just lounging in the open air bar is just what the doctor ordered

Day 9
Another day relaxing at Tassia, maybe take a game walk, or just sit in the open air bar and fill out your journal, maybe get a massage from a Masai tribesman. The time is your own, unless you want some activity and it can be arranged.

Day 10
Today we drive around the western flanks of Mt Kenya back to our Sagana river base, where dinner will be served on the banks of the Tana river.

Day 11
Back on the river, today we will raft the entire 16 kilometres of the Tana river again. Then after lunch there will be the opportunity to go up and run the final 8 kilometres again, making the most of just the biggest rapids on the river. Tonight there will also be the chance to bungy jump high above the fast flowing Tana.

Day 12
Today we step the rafting up a notch as we head out to the Mathioya River, this river is similar to the Tana but with fewer breaks between rapids and one portage around a Class VI canyon. A very exciting day on the river followed by a big BBQ dinner back at camp.

Day 13
Today we will have a leisurely start and make our way back to the Jacaranda hotel in Nairobi, you will have the chance to browse the curio markets, check emails, check out Nairobi or simply nap by the pool.
